7th NYG: Kano State to produce gymnastics Olympic athletes for Nigeria in the future

Since the existence of a multi-sporting events organised by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Sports Commission for athletes from the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria in 2013, tagged the National Youth Games, this is the first in the history of Kano State to produce an athlete in gymnastics who is a six-year-old child, called Funcho Sanni Omokorede Lisa.


The gymnastic youngest athlete, Omokorede Lisa, who competed with over one hundred gymnastics athletes in the maiden edition of the National Youth Games that are taking place currently in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.


The Younger Kano Athlete, whose mother, Mrs. Olubukola Funsho Sanni, paid a flight ticket together with her daughter from Kano to Asaba, for her to encourage her child's dream.


Mrs. Olubukola said her tag was given to her daughter, who wishes to represent Nigeria in gymnastics at the World Olympic Games in the future.


She also called on parents to always assist their children in achieving their dreams and called on wealthy individuals, especially in Kano, to make use of their wealth by prompting sporting activities, which will give the children's chances to display their talent.


The 6-year-old girl finished in 5th place among over one hundred gymnastics athletes that she competed with in the Multipurpose Hall, Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.


Also, 12-year-old gymnastics Kano athlete Apochi Gwen Ochanya, who is also together with her mother, Mrs. Apochi Hannah, said she was in Asaba to win a gold medal for Kano, no less, no more. and she will work hard for herself to see her on the Nigerian gymnastics national team.


Apochi called on the government in the state to provide more sporting equipment, especially in gymnastics.


On his part, Kano gymnastics coach Egbunu said he was in Asaba with eight athletes.

The rest are Sani Haris, Ibrahim Nasiru, Aliyu Sanni, Mubarak Mustapha, and Kamalu.
