Royal Queens FC Chairman, Dr. Sifo Omatsola, Hails Super Falcons’ Historic Comeback Victory to Clinch 10th WAFCON Title
The Chairman of Royal Queens Football Club of Warri, Dr. Sifo Omatsola, has extended warm congratulations to the Super Falcons of Nigeria following their breathtaking and historic victory over host nation Morocco in the final of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Rabat last night.
The Falcons staged a heroic comeback after trailing 2-0 at halftime, eventually triumphing 3-2 in front of a stunned Moroccan crowd to clinch their record-extending 10th continental title.
In an official statement, Dr. Omatsola commended the Nigerian women’s national team for displaying extraordinary resilience, courage, and national pride in what he described as “one of the greatest comebacks in the history of African women’s football.”
“The Super Falcons have once again written their names in gold. Coming from 2-0 down to beat the host nation 3-2 in a packed stadium shows the true spirit of Nigerian football. It was a performance full of heart, belief, and excellence. I congratulate the entire team, the coaching staff, and all Nigerians on this incredible achievement,” Dr. Omatsola said.
Dr. Omatsola specially praised forward Esther Okoronkwo, who played a pivotal role in the team’s turnaround. Okoronkwo scored Nigeria’s first goal from the penalty spot early in the second half and then turned provider—first assisting Folashade Ijamilusi to level the match at 2-2, and later delivering the decisive assist for Jennifer Echegini, who netted the match winner in the 87th minute.
“Esther Okoronkwo was simply sensational. Her composure, creativity, and leadership in the final third proved crucial in one of our most memorable wins ever. She embodies the kind of talent and mental strength we are nurturing across Nigeria’s women’s football,” he added.
The Royal Queens FC chairman further noted that the Falcons’ performance serves as a powerful inspiration to young female footballers, especially those playing in the Nigerian Women Football League (NWFL).
“This victory is not just for the national team, it belongs to every girl dreaming of greatness in this sport. At Royal Queens FC, we are proud to be part of that journey. The Super Falcons have reminded us all what’s possible when talent meets determination,” Dr. Omatsola concluded.
The dramatic win reaffirms Nigeria’s dominance in African women’s football and boosts morale ahead of upcoming international competitions. With ten AWCON titles to their name, the Super Falcons continue to blaze a trail for the women’s game across the continent and beyond.
